Lou D’Allesandro: A Distinguished Career in Public Service, Education, and Community Leadership

Lou D’Allesandro has dedicated his life to serving the people of New Hampshire, excelling in leadership roles across public service, education, and community engagement.

With an extraordinary 13 terms in the New Hampshire State Senate, Lou has been a steadfast advocate for his constituents. As a member of the Finance Committee, the Capital Budget Committee, and Vice Chair of Ways & Means, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the state’s fiscal policies. His legislative career also includes three terms on the New Hampshire Executive Council and two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

Beyond his contributions in government, Lou has had a remarkable career in education. He served as President of Nasson College and Daniel Webster College and as Vice President of Continuing Education at Franklin Pierce University. His passion for teaching has brought him to the classroom as an instructor at both the college and high school levels, influencing countless students.

A proud alumnus of the University of New Hampshire, Lou earned a BA in History in 1961, followed by an M.Ed. from Rivier University in 1971. He further enriched his academic credentials as a Caroline Gross Fellow at Harvard University.

Lou’s commitment to his community is evident in his leadership roles, including Chair of the Board for Manchester’s Community Action Program, Past Chair of the National Council of State Governments. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Rudman Center at UNH Law.

A published author, Lou shares his reflections and experiences in “Lou D’Allesandro: Lion of the New Hampshire Senate, Thoughts for Presidential Hopefuls” by Mark Bonanza. His book offers insights into his decades of service and wisdom for future leaders.

Throughout his life, Lou D’Allesandro has exemplified dedication, integrity, and a profound commitment to making a difference in New Hampshire and beyond.
